i made a few mistakes that cost me the game which he won 1-0 on objectives and am wondering if I should try and paint up a sixth Deathwing squad or break out the Landraiders for a rematch. his list was 3 squads of 2 War walkers with dual scatter lasers, 2 vipers with scatter lasers+ sh. cannons and 5 waveserpents, 2 with bright lances containing 5 DA each, 3 with scatter lasers containing 2 squads of 6 fire dragons and a squad of 10 storm guardians with dual flamers and an autarch with fusion gun and a farseer with doom and runes of warding.
Hi Chris,
ReplyDeleteInteresting battle report. He's got a really nice list - the kind of thing I would want Eldar to be able to field if I wanted to use them in a tournament, but probably not much fun for a casual game. There's a lot of things that you need to take out in this list, but I think that it would be easy to overestimate the Fire Dragons - your Storm Shields make them not as good as they might first appear. I'd say the War Walkers and Vypers are top of the target list.
Definitely don't take Land Raiders against a list like this - that gives him a viable target for his otherwise suboptimal fire dragons.
My advice for this mission (and other objective missions) when playing a slow army like this, which I learned whilst playing my tyranids, is that you really have to plan for the end of the game and start moving your units into position for that plan from turn 1 and you really have to keep that plan at the forefront of your mind all through the game as one suboptimal movement phase can mean that you never get to where you need to be to win on turn 5. Don't know if that helps.
yeah I destroyed his vipers pretty quick cos they are open topped but his walkers were the problem. ok next time I play him I'll avoid the land Raiders and take 6 termie squads and 2 landspeeders, want to try out having another scoring term unit instead of the ven dread and a landspeeder - less firepower but more termies :) Thanks for the advice, I will definately deploy a bit closer to the objectives next time!
