My current project - deathwing Landraider

OK i don't know how good the Landraider will be game-wise but I'm thinking of a list with two or three of them. here is my first one (a crusader) after washing with Devlan mud. Lots of highlights to do, have started them and they are going to take me a long time...

It needs a few Deathwing/dark Angels symbols as well, not sure if I will paint these on or use some bits from the Ravenwing boxed set that i have left over

Merry Christmas!

The Lord Inquisitor has arrived.

As I'm still not back in the painting grove after my mammoth session preparing for the tournament I decided to do what I enjoy most, building stuff.

For the upcoming campaign (details shortly I promise) I decided I needed a cheap HQ for my grey knights as we will be playing some smaller points games. An Inquisitor in terminator armour with a Daemon Hammer and Psycannon only cost 80pts! Survivable (2+/5++ and 3W), Shooty (4x S7 rending shots) and good in combat (3A, S6 power weapon) seems an absolute bargain as he allows me to field a henchman squad as well :-)

Unfortunatly GW don't make anything remotely similar to this so I decided to make my own.

After raiding my bitz box and ebay I Hammered together this guy. Points if you can guess all the kits the parts come from.

I have finished up Brother Omnio now. These Space Hulk miniatures are so nice to paint!

Next in the paint queue is Brother Gorial, who will be a Blood Raven. He's the one that's just decapitated a genestealer, so I am going to have some fun with blood and gore effects!

A bridge to far. Bring in the fish heads

So there is 0 chance for me to get my wolves up and running for the tourni now sadly just to much real life getting in the way.  So as such i'm going to dust of my tau and get them up and running however, this is my list.

Commander with misslepod plasma rifle and fusion blaster

Commander with misslepod plasma rifle and Flamer

Elite

3x crisis suits with Plasma rifle and missile pod with a gun drone

3x crisis suits with twin linked Missile pods

3x crisis sutis with twin linked Missle pods

Troop

6x fire warriors in a devil fish

6x fire warriors in a devil fish

10x Kroot

10x Kroot

Fast

6x pathfinders

1x Piranha with fusion blaster

1x Piranha with fusion blaster

Heavy

3x broadsides with bs upgrade and 2 shield drones

3x broadsides with split fire upgrade and 2 shield drones

1x skyray with bs upgrade and SMS

I do lie the list will do very well against some of the new builds (grayknight crons and dark eldar) but it will struggle vs hordes and blood angels

So I meant to post an update on my painting but due to general slowness and lack of time have not done as much as I'd have liked. Have finished off the last terminator squad except for the insignia, and have finished one of the ravenwing attack squads but not the other.

I've still got to base about 8 models and do at least a basic paintjob on the second attack bike so that's probably what I'll be doing for the rest of the time. Will leave the last ravenwing squad only basically painted but nevermind!

See you guys at the tournament!

Glowing eye technique

Well not too much painting done this week, due to real life commitments (my job is very job at the moment :( )

I did, however, manage to pick up some glaze medium and some retarder medium, which has enabled me to start trying out glazing and wet blending to a much greater extent than I have been able to previously. I have tried a combination of these techniques to go for a glowing eyes effect on Brother Onmio:

Not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but I am quite pleased with it for a first go. Pleased enough to be looking back at the tactical squad and thinking they'd look pretty boss with some glowing eyes too! What do you think and any tips for improving in using this technique?

Progress on Death/Ravenwing

So here are some pictures of what I have to finish painting for the COG2k tournament in just over a weeks time...gulp!

somehow the first shot is of the back of the 3 terminators I have just finished from my last squad, but they are not based yet:

Next up the first Ravenwing squad with meltaguns in various states of painting, two just undercoated and need to do armour highlights on the other two.

Here's the second Ravenwing squad with plasmaguns, looking more finished, just got some highlights to do really and attach one of the plasmaguns.

This is the Deathwing banner which i fielded like this in the COG1500 but is actually still unfinished, and i have to paint another storm shield on one guy cos i lost the magnetised arm in the garage somewhere...:(

Lastly a shot of the fifth squad showing the front. the two guys on the right as you look at the picture are unfinished, need two lots of armour highlights and one termies arms need attaching. they also need the symbol on their right shoulder pads painting on.

Will try and post an update of how i am doing midweek. Lots to do in a short time!
got a question though: in the codex entry for Ravenwing bikers, it says they have a chainsword or bolt pistol. Does this mean I can have one special weapon guy with a bolt pistol and one with a chainsword and they count as separate for wound allocation purposes, or is that clutching at straws?

Wisdom's 2000pts in all their painted glory.

I'm going to the 4TK 2000pt tournament next weekend and a few months ago when it was announced I decided to use the event as motivation to paint my Daemon army.
The whole army, arrayed in formation staying near fateweaver.
Photobucket
I've got a very large Blood Angels army that I've painted to various standards that I usually take to tournaments but though it'd be nice to play a different army and also paint something other than red. Because the army I'm using has quite a low model count I decided to spend a little more time and care than I usually do and I'm quite pleased with the results, it was a nice change to be able to do each unit in an individual colour scheme.
They're all on square bases because I use the army for both 40K and fantasy, luckily the tournament organiser has no problem with me using them that way :)
Fateweaver. I've never spent this long painting a single model before.Photobucket
Bloodthirster. He was part painted when I got him from ebay so only needed finishing up.
Photobucket
Three Daemon Princes, one of Nurgle, two of Tzeentch. I like using different models for these (the pink one is sometimes used as a Slaanesh follower).
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
Bloodcrushers. I didn't want them to be particularly red so went for a much darker scheme on the mounts themselves.
Photobucket
Fiends. Half of them are alot more sunburnt than the other half as I added to the unit later on and had forgotten the mix of paint I'd used on the others.
Photobucket
Horrors with the Changeling. I love the old models with their jazz hands.
Photobucket
Multiple Plaguebearers. I wanted the different units to be different colours so they could be told appart easily.

Now that their finished I can spend a couple of weeks relaxing and painting Ghazghkull :D then I have more BA's to paint for next years 40KUKGT.

Brother-Sergeant Lorenzo

Ok!

So I have pretty much finished up Brother-Sergeant Lorenzo as a Deathwatch member. He needs muddying up, but I will add mud to the whole squad once I have finished them in one go. Here he is. I am pretty pleased with him, particularly the face, hair and sword:

Next up will be Brother Omnio, the Ultramarine Cyclone Missile Launcher user.

8.11.11

The next up in the Deathwatch Project is a terminator squad lead by a librarian. I have production line painted them up to the point where I am nearly happy with their armour (the shoulder pads still some work).

Photobucket

Photobucket

As you can see they're the gorgeous Space Hulk minis with a couple of minor modifications (the Ultramarine has a cyclone and the Grey Knight has a combi melta). I took off the easiest to remove Blood Angel iconography. But I am too much of a coward to attack some of the harder to remove symbols as I just know I would wreck the models. I'll just have to live with the occasional winged cup in some o

From here on in I will be painting them individually

Introducing the Deathwatch Project

So, I think that my contribution to this blog is mainly going to be focused on the development of my Deathwatch. I already have eldar and tyranid armies, but the eldar include a lot of models that I painted when my painting skills were very poor and the tyranids have a deliberately simple scheme necessary for pumping out hundreds of of bugs. I wanted an army where I could really take my time with each model and maintain as high a standard as I can manage. So I have started making a deathwatch force. It is intended to initially be played using the Space Marine codex, but once I have more models I will look into branching out to make it playable using other codexen too. Anyway, here's what I have finished so far - a tactical squad with their rhino.
